Detroit Bass
Jeff Whittle has been playing bass for nearly 20 years - with the past 12 years dedicated to the Detroit-based progressive rock band "Tiles." Jeff has palyed on four of the five Tiles releases: "Fence the Clear" (1997); "Presents of Mind" (1999); "Presence in Europe (Live Bootleg/Board Tape Recordings)" (2000); and "Window Dressing" (2004) - Jeff also played on the bonus tracks for the reissued Tiles self-titled debut (2004). Tiles is currently tracking their 5th studio recording with noted producer Terry Brown (Rush, Fates Warning, Tony Levin, Max Webster) - scheduled for an early-2007 release.
A native Detroiter, Jeff has studied with noted jazz bassist Rich K. (Brazil and Beyond) and Kevin Chown (Jeff Kollman/Edwin Dare, Artension, Tony McAlpine) - and cites Paul McCartney, James Jamerson, Sting, and Steve Harris as his primary influences.
Jeff and Tiles have performed extensively throughout the midwest and have shared the stage with Dream Theater, Kansas, Fates Warning, Savatage, Steve Morse Band, Blue Oyster Cult, Judas Priest, and Spock's Beard - to name a few. Tiles also toured Europe for three weeks in November of 1999 as special guests for Dream Theater - visiting 7 countries and playing to over 200,000 people.
Jeff has been an Eden user for the past 10 years (Highwayman w/ 4-10 and 1-15 cabinets) and is even more pleased with his brand new set-up: "My new WT800 amp and D410XST / D210XST cabinets are amazing! Clear, tight lows and a stunning high end. Every bass player should experience these amps. Easy and fun to set up, tweak, and find your own sound!"
