The Snow Owl Flies Low
Juan Garcia-Herreros, also known as "Snow Owl", was born in Bogotá, Colombia. A self-taught musician until he was 15, Juan was just 16 when he began to teach Music Theory and Jazz Performance at Dunedin High School in Florida. By spending many dedicated hours playing both acoustic and electric bass, he became proficient enough to perform with the Tampa Bay Symphony at just 17 years of age.
Juan received a coveted scholarship to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. He studied at Berklee with world-renowned bass instructors Bruce Gertz (Joe Lovano, Jerry Bergonzi, and Mike Stern). And Oscar Stagnaro (Paquito de Rivera, Caribbean Jazz Project).
At age 21, Garcia-Herreros returned to New York City to pursue a professional music career. While in New York, Juan developed the ability to meet the demands of multiple styles. Whether the musical genre is Funk, Salsa, straight-ahead Rock, Modern Jazz, Heavy Metal, or Avante Garde, he is capable of participating without any artistic compromise.
During his career, Juan has performed as a sideman with an impressive list of musicians, including: Austrian drum virtuoso Thomas Lang; Legendary Alto saxophonists James Spaulding, Miguel Zenon, Yusveny Terry, Anton Denner and Greg Osby; Warner Brothers recording artist Gabriela Anders; ECM recording artist José Maria Saluzzi; Latin Jazz Piano legends Hector Martignon and Oscar Hernandez; Latin Jazz Percussionists Horacio "El Negro"Hernandez , Master Timbalero "Chino" Nuñes, "Timbalayes'" Roberto Quintero and drummer Bobby Sanabria; Jazz / Funk guitarist Mark Whitfield and modern Jazz Pianists Bill Carrothers and Edward Simon. He has also performed and toured with the world famous RMM recording artists Michael Stuart and Johnny Rivera.
As a composer his original compositions have been featured in the off-Broadway production of "Anatomy of a Knucklehead."
This past January 2005 and 2006 Juan performed as a Featured Artist at the NAMM Show in Anaheim, California as well as two solo bass concerts at the 2006 Frankfurt Musikmesse.
Currently, Juan is working within the following projects:

Juan uses our WT1205 powering both a D210XST and a D212XLT cabinet. He says he uses Eden gear because "it's precise, intense, versatile, dynamic and reliable." |
