Minister Kim Farrar - Lady Plays the Bass
Kim Farrar took an interesting and somewhat unusual path to becoming a bassist. After starting on bongos at age 4, she played drums recreationally through her teens and, later, more seriously. After college, she toured Russia, Finland and Switzerland as a drummer and vocalist with the Victory Praise Singers. Farrar also opened for Fred Hammond & Radical for Christ on drums and accompanied Helen Baylor in concert as a percussionist.
In 1996 Minister Kim founded Bloodline, an original Urban Gospel group, initially serving as the band leader, musical director and singer. When the bassist left, she decided to fill the role herself. Farrar found her bass chops quickly and now tours and records as the bassist with Bloodline.
Farrar produced Bloodline's debut CD, Revelations, which hit the market June 5th, 2005. Bloodline has a unique Urban Gospel style targeted toward teens and young adults. Although Revelations was the band's first recording project and Farrar's first official run as a producer/recording bassist, it has garnered strong reviews nationally. Revelations is available at www.CDBaby.com/Bloodline and sample cuts are also available at the band's website.
After trying various rigs, Farrar found her home with Eden. "I used to get caught eating butter out of the refrigerator as a kid," she said in a recent conversation, laughing. "So it only stands to reason that the amp for me would be Eden. I have to have smooth, clear tone that's rich, sweet and creamy - like butter - and that's how I describe Eden! I play for the Lord and I know He deserves the best. I decided to never compromise . . . not with my music, not with my lyrics and not with my tone."
Farrar uses the Eden WT405 amp and the D112 XLT cabinet. "Bloodline travels quite a bit and having a smaller rig works perfectly for me. I get my tone shaping options and power with this easy to transport combination." |
