Destined to be an Entertainer in the Music World
North Eastern Ohio native Phil Risko received his first bass at the age of 15 and never looked back. Playing bass along with his sidekick guitarist Ryan Beke (currently studying at Berklee, Boston) he realized that they both were destined to be entertainers in the music world. Hitting the festival scene at 18 with his first band GreenLeif gave him great experience to play with a lot of great acts along his career. In late 2008 he shared the stage with Chicago's own Jim Peterik performing the hit Ides of March song "Vehicle". Phil has played in bands ranging from funk to blues and rock, indy and bluegrass and has toured the east coast numerous times.
Just recently joining the Ohio native band Ekoostik Hookah brings yet another musical chapter that is about to be written in this young aspiring musician. Ekoostik hookah has played in more than 30 states at venues including New York's Wetlands Preserve, Chicago's House of Blues, Cleveland's Nautica Stage, Atlanta's Variety Playhouse, Boulder's Fox Theater, Columbus' Promowest Pavilion, Cleveland's House of Blues, LA's Whiskey a Go-Go and San Francisco's Great American Music Hall. Ekoostik Hookah played its first international shows in June 1999 in Negril, Jamaica. Since then the band has traveled back to Jamaica (in 2002), to the Netherlands in 2003 and back to Jamaica in 2006 and again in 2010, bringing their fans along each time.
You can check out his bands festival Hookahville which are held twice a year with acts ranging from Gov't Mule, Michael Franti, The Wailers, Bela Fleck, Les Claypool, David Grisman, RatDog, Keller Williams, Freakbass and many others in the past.
Phil's influences include Larry Graham from Graham Central Station, Flea, Paul McCartney, John Paul Jones, Phil Lesh, Mike Gordon, Les Claypool, Bootsy Collins and many more. From these influences Phil has taken a little from each person to create his own unique style of bass playing.
Phil uses the WT800C which he prefers over any other amp head out there. It provides the perfect tone and quality that any musician is looking for. |
