Happily Leading a "Double" Life

Randy Landau never wanted to play anything but bass. He began on electric bass in 1966, at the age of 12. At 19, the Jazz bug bit him and he bagan to study upright (or Contrabass, as he calls it), as well. Although self-taught for most of his career, he was recently accepted as an upright student by master educators Homer Mensch, Alvin Brehm, and Judith Sugarman.

Randy's recording and touring credits span a broad spectrum of musical styles. Everything from Chuck Berry, The Temptations, and The Four Tops to Larry Coryell, and the New York Voices, to the August Symphony, East Bay Symphony and Prmoetheus Orchestra. He's also played for Braodway productions and national tours of Man of La Mancha, Bombay Dreams, Rent, Spamalot, City of Angles and Aida.

Known in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco as a "doubler" (meaning he plays both electric and upright), Randy demands Eden gear, regardless of the style of music. He uses our VT.25 and WT400 to power two D210XST and two D210MBX cabinets for use with both instruments.

"I've been a fan of David's gear since he was designing cabinets for SWR," Randy says. "When he brought out the VT.25, I had to check it out and I still use one today. I've had the opportunity to use, and endorse, just about all the amps and cabinets on the market and I have yet to find anything that even comes close to what I get from my Edens."
