Hi to all!

So I just registered to this forum in search for some advice / opinions on a few ideas I have about improving my setup.
I'll post a thread about this in the 'Your Setup' forum. I'll introduce myself a bit here first:

I'm a bassplayer living near Rotterdam, the Netherlands. I'm a conservatory student, play in 4 bands, and work in a (big) local musicstore.
My musicstyle is in the rock/metal corner, though I'm not shy of anything else. I like to experiment with sounds a lot, so I'm really into effects and synths.

That's about it for now. I'm sure you're input will be helpful for me, and I'll try to be of some value to this community in return (of course!).

Xrix.

Greetings fellow bass thumpers:
My name is Richard and I live in the most S.Western part of the US, San Diego, CA. I started playing bass in 1970 when I realized there were already too many pretty good guitarists in my H.S., but no bassists, and I had a better chance of joining a band.
My first axe was a Crown violin bass played through a Standell bass amp and the first band I played in, "Wazeer Steamshoes" did tunes by Buffalo Springfield, Cream, Butterfield BB, Allman Bros, etc. That lasted about two years, and the most memorable gig we did was in a Malibu Beach parking lot around midnight on a Saturday, when we felt like playing but had no gig. We climbed through a restroom window to get electricity and played about 25 min. before the CHP made us stop because somebody miles away complained. Anyway, Steamshoes ran out of steam soon afterward, but I kept practicing and jamming with anybody interested.
There wasn't much of a scene in LA in the early seventies (for me anyways), and I didn't play in a working band until I moved to Santa Fe, NM in '75. "Lumbre Del Sol" played mostly Santana and Latin Jazz, had a full percussion section with drums, congas and timbales and was the most fun I ever had playing. We criss-crossed New mexico to play all sorts of functions including bars. By then, I played a Rickenbacker 4001 through a Peavey with 2X15, then switched to a Gibson EB3 because the neck was more comfortable. That gig lasted about 4 fun-filled years, then I got into punk and switched to guitar & drums for about 8 years. The highpoint of that period was playing drums on the "Crawling Walls" album, released on Midnight Records by Greg Shaw, and opening for the Ramones on their "Too Tough To Die" tour. "Crawling Walls" disbanded after that and by the late 80's I was reduced again to casual jamming with friends and acquaintances. I'd sold my music gear except for my EB3, but then in '94 I was introduced to some guys playing 50's and 60's pre-psychedelic tunes who were sort of on ice also, and didn't have a bass player; they could play and sing tons of songs by the Beach Boys, Rick Nelson, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, etc. and after some practicing we started lining up gigs. That was 12 years ago and we're still going strong. Paying gigs allowed me to trade up music gear, and I went from an old Acoustic bass amp to a Carvin to finally Eden in 1997, when I saw an ad for an Eden Traveler 300 with 4X10. Axe-wise I'm content with my stable of MIA Fender Jazz w. CS PUs, MIA Fender P,MIM Fender (passive) Deluxe P, MIJ Fender Mustang, Gibson EB3, Hoefner 500, and a Hoefner copy by Klira from the mid-sixties.
Last night I bought a WT 800 in excellent condition from another bassist, and when I went on-line to download the manual, I saw the forum and figured what the hey, join and say "Hello". So here I am, a committed Edenite.

Hey everyone. I'm new as of this week. I didnt' notice this 'introduce yourself' until just now. Eublet, one of your regulars told me about this. Anyway, I am 30 and have been playing for a living for about 9 years. I lived in Orlando where I played at Disney world and did other gigs like jazz casuals for parties and restuarants. I also did a fair share of traveling with a convention band. I now live in Charlotte, NC where my wife and I do music at a church. It's a bit of a culture change, but it's been fun. I have used a Navigator for everything I've recorded for the last 5 years and most live situations, too. It is amazing. I used it in a large auditorium (5,000 seat church) and the sound engineer told me that he didn't want me to play without it.
My basses are all Modulus. It is really nice to have the graphite necks in the outdoors in FL. I've also fallen in love with the feel and consistency. Eden is a perfect match with these. I have a Q6 and a VJ. I used to have a Warrior fretless, but I sold it. I'll get a Modulus eventually. This forum has some great info and I've already picked up a lot of gear tips. Thanks to everyone for all the input.

Robert Belanger from the northern french-canadian part of Canada. Old ESL teacher who teaches English to his students by introducing them to the blues and rock, they have a ball. Recently bought a DC112XLT Bass Combo and was blown over by the sound. Thinking of adding a D210XLT cabinet to the set, wonder how it will sound voume wise. I play a 5 string Fender American Jazz and have a 4 string Fretless American Jazz. Great to be a part the Eden Gang.

Fellow bassists!

I thinks its about time to introduce myself. I've been lurking around the Forum for some time, picking up good tips and enjoying fellow bassist stories.

My name is Terje Craig and I've been playing semi-pro for a good 20 years. The last few years I've been freelancing. I quite like that because you always end up with different gigs requiring good gear and a good ear (or two). My day job is working in Telecom planning.

My main bassguitar for live/studio use is a translucent blue Modulus SP4 which I tune D-G-C-F. I string it with GHS progressives 45-105. I have a Yamaha TRB5 fretless (also translucent blue) which I tune D-G-C-F-Bb. It has Fodera strings on.

My live rig consists of an Eden WT400 which works as preamp for my Modulus and overall poweramp. I have an old and trusted GK RB200 which I use as the preamp for my fretless. The signal then hits an SWR 6x10" cab. I had an Eden 2x10" when I did mainly low volume gigs, but now I need the extra power.

Hope to see many of you guys visiting my website.

Basically yours

Me:

I'm Ray Farquhar and I live just outside Montreal. Guitar was my first instrument. I've been playing about 30 years, bass for the last 20. Like Lane, I play most any style outside of rap and opera. I'm a little "old school" and don't have much of a slap/pop technique (yet).

1st gig in 1975 and have done a bit of everything since. Spent about 12 years playing music exclusively - bar circuit, concerts, festivals, TV, recording. Lots of travel. Now I have a day job but still play all the time. Currently in a 10-piece Cabaret style show, complete with scantily-clad dancers!

I'm new to the forum because I'm new to Eden products. I just bought a Nemesis NC210 and am enjoying it immensely. I'm playing an Ibanez BTB 4-string as my main axe with a Fender Urge short scale as backup.

That's about it - unless you have any questions...? lol.

Hey, everybody!

I'm brand new to Eden products. I just picked up a CXC110 last weekend and played it during our worship service today. To say that it sounded great would be an understatement. My keyboard player told me he hadn't heard me play that clearly and cleanly ever! It's the tone.

Anyway, a little bit of bio - I cut my teeth back in the late 60's on Beatles and Led Zeppelin, graduated to Santana, and then later, played the whole miserable lounge thing. Then we decided to make real money and do weddings - not exciting, but it paid the bills and you can't beat prime rib three nights a week. Back then I was using a Fender Bassman 10 - a serviceable amp - gave me a Chris Squire tone with my Rick 4001. Around '86 I retired from the biz because my kids were growing up without me, so I hung up my instruments for 5 years, except for an occasional "Rocky Raccoon" lullaby for the kids. In '91 I started going to church, I joined the worship team, and played guitar and bass, and have been going strong since.

I live in Jersey with my wife. My son is going to Life Pacific College and will be a youth pastor / worship leader when he graduates in December. He's a guitarist (plays a mean PRS). My daughter is an equine studies major at University of Findlay, Ohio.

Anyway in addition to my CXC110, I play a knock-off Jazz bass (I'll get some real pickups someday), have a Cort Curbow, and an assortment of guitars (Taylor 612, Joe Pass Jazz, Fendor Strat, Cort acoustic, etc., etc.) and amps (Fender Bassman 10, Peavey Minx, Trademark 60).

My real love is bass. I usually lead worship with my Taylor, but I totally love "driving the bus" with my bass when I "guest play" at other churches and when I have another guitar play at my services.

If any of you who read this play lefty and upside down (I buy lefty gear and have them restrung righty - don't ask why, and it's too late for me to learn how to play the proper way), please contact me ... I haven't been able to figure out the whole popping and slapping thing the way Wayman Tisdale does it. I've only seen Wayman and Jimmy Haslip from the Yellowjackets play upside and backwards like me.

Thanks, and I'm thrilled to be a member of the Eden community!

Since introduction are only proper, here's mine.

I'm a newbie. To Eden, to bass, and to playing music. After years of listening, I decided to join the party. Sure I did the obligatory stint as a drummer in a garage band, but I didn't explode so no one noticed.

I've had a halting start to playing the bass. About fifteen years ago I purchased a Fender Jazz after a divorce. My life continued to be unsettled and I never made a go of it. About 6 years ago I drug it and started taking lessons. I became enthralled with the fretless sound and traded it for a Pedulla Rapture 5 string smoothie. (And a WT300 with a 212XLT, which is how I ended up here.) I was ahead of myself and became discouraged. I just now dusted off the Pedulla and associated gear and approached the whole business with a different attitude. To boost my confidence I bought a fretted bass (MM StingRay 5).

Funny thing about the two basses. It turns out the fretted bass buzzes and makes awful noises if you don't pay attention. I discovered that my fretless technique wasn't so bad and actually forced some good habits, like hand position.

So here I am with great equipment (I added a 210XST when I got the Stingray5) and a job/commute that keeps me pretty busy. However, I have focused my energy a bit and am looking forward to emerging as a functioning blues bassist at some point in the future.

I have some questions, but I'll find the right thread to post them on.

HI poeple,
My name is Paul and I am from the province of Newfoundland which is located in Canada. Well I am back at "IT" after a twenty year layoff. Twenty years ago a time basement band cosisting of a guitarist, drummer & bassist(Me)jammed, jammed, jammed ... a guess what ... we jammed some more. We didn't even have a vocalist. We played classic rock mostly and jammed the 1-4-5 untill it came out our ears. For whatever reason things came to an end. You know how things go ... someone quites, someone gets married and someone goes off to university. The fool with education on his mind was me! I sold my gear and never thought about the bass guitar again. I get a telephone call in November 2005. That same guitarist and drummer from twenty years ago are looking for a bassist. Everyone is settled down in life now ...kids, permanent jobs and this could be a great pass time ... so they say. They also have a vocalist now. He is a guy from a band that was one of the more popular bands in Newfoundland way back when. It also happens that the guitarist has backline company which translates to immediate and free acess to top line PA gear. So there we have it, the birth of the band Mid-Life Crisis. We played a few parties ... just to stroke the old egos. You know how it is. Then we started getting a few telephone calls for some paying gigs. It's been fun. I am always interested in becoming a better player and improving my gear, which I believe go hand in hand. I'm certainly not the best player in the world, but I'd like to be. Ha! Ha! I listen intently to all you have to say. I play a Fender Jazz, Ampeg SVT CL, Ampeg SVT HLF410, Ampeg BXT210 and Eden WT550. It looks as though I am an Ampeg man, but you Edenites have the power of Kryptonite (spelling?). I can see a Eden 210xst in my near future ... maybe a Eden 212 or a 410xst ... Maybe a completed change over of greag. Anyway, That's me in a nut shell. As I've said many times, you guys are great. Glad to be onboard.

Greetings,
I live outside of Nashville Tennessee, in a town called Smyrna. I worked at the Nissan plant here
for around 10 years as a Maintenance Tech. Electrical/Electronics is my degree. I worked in the
paint plant, on the automated systems and robots that paint those autos. I made a living for the past 20yrs or so as a Industrial Electrician for peeps like Whirlpool, Purina Mills, Batesville Casket Co. Now there was the job, people dying to get one of those.. Then one day I took a flu shot. A few weeks later, I started getting weak in the legs. It just kept getting worse. I was told I had Guillain Barre Syndrome. http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/g...s.htm#53343139
Every doc I saw asked me if I had a flu shot. Anyway, when it didn't go away after a year or
so, they started calling it CIDP, which is just the chronic form of GBS.
http://www.brainaustralia.org.au/AZ_...Disorders/cidp
This has been with me going on 8 years now. At times I have been unable to even feed myself, and I have been in the ICU about a half dozen times. I wanted to move on to the next heaven on many occasions, but if it ain't your time... I spent this last (2005) Christmas and New years in a physical rehabalitation hospital.. I been slowly getting stronger since. I saw 4 people on a tv show one day, and they had all gotten over it, it just went away. One girl had it for 10 years. I shall overcome it also, say a prayer please. I played in a a couple of bands after I got out of the Army, when I was in my 20's. The best time of my life, you tend to forget the bad times. I lost my 4001 series Rickenbacker, that I bought in 1979, in the mid 90's in a house fire, I had taken it a friend to be refinished. Lighting struck his home, and he lost lots more than I did. I replaced it with an American Fender Jazz Deluxe. I worked 6 and 7 days a week at the time, so I never had much time to get back into playing it. When I became ill, I bought a syntheszier, got Cool Edit Pro, and started recording noise on my pc.. When I got home from the hospital this last time, I tried to play the Fender, but it was just too heavy for my weak arms. I am also the proud owner of a new Rick Turner Renaissance 4 string fretless which comes in at 5.5 lbs. Working hard to get the strength back to my fingers .. everyday..
http://www.renaissanceguitars.com/renopener.html
Wthout doing much thinking on it I ordered an Ampeg combo, along with a 15" su b to get the full 500 watts, for the bedroom mind you, I always liked it just a little louder, and I am a rocker at heart, but I did play country for the $ back in the days. It just bored me as a bass player. I
guess it wasn't meant to be, FED EX delivered it and the boxes where wet on one or more sides. I could not detect any water on the inside, my friend hauled it to the Room, and it sounded like crap. The 15 had damage of some sort I think, but it could have been the ouput on the amp, said
the trouble shooter.. So I shipped them back, at 100lb ea.. My friend and neighobors are both reluctant to answer the phone nowdays...so until the dust settles on that return I'm playing thru a Fender BXR100. Which is ok...for now..I have my sights on an Eden rig, and have been reading the forums trying to decide what to get.
I never had lessons, I was able to pick up playing the bass by ear. My mom was a piano and organ player in the church. I guess hearing music in the house and church all those years helped out, I didn't start trying to play until I was 18, in the army and located in W. Germany. I
learned by playing along to the likes of skynrd and that sort of music. Never got what I consider real good at it, I was just an average player, looking to get laid. That was back before sex would kill you...I went to college during this time, and I played everday, so I was decent I suppose..
Oh, I would like to put in a good word for my wife of, lets see, 19yrs. Without her I would probably have to live in a nursing home, but she has stood by my side thru the worst times. I'm lucky in a lot of ways I never realized before. Thats all there is, sorry for the length and
mispelled words. I'm just covered up with nothing to do..
peace
soapy
P.S. my only claim to fame ... The year before I became ill, I helped John Kay and Steppenwolf load out from a Nashville show. They gave me a black hat with the wolf logo, and it said local crew. They operated out of Nashville the past few years, but I read that John Kay was moving to Canada. Something I will never forget, and something they prolly will never remember.. lifes funny like that, always be kind.

Hello

My name is Scott Lane, from South Georgia, and I have been seriously playing bass for about 17 years. Sort of a converted guitar player. I found that the bass suited me very well and wondered why I hadn't picked it up sooner. Perhaps it was the singing/playing thing.

Like many others I have played in several bands but was lucky enough to hook up with a couple of guys (brothers) with similar thoughts of what a band should be. Feet in the real world, real jobs, no record deal aspirations. Good music, good times and cool instruments/gear. 14 years later we're still together and playing as much as we want. 7 of those years we were a house band for a local establishment playing 3 nights a week. That's a lot of work for 3 guys with "real jobs"!

I love the vintage instruments. They inspire me to play. I've owned and played LOTS of basses but have always come back to the old Fender Jazz bass as my favorite. There are easier, cooler basses to play but somehow they have become my identity.

I got my first Eden cabinet, a D410T, in 1994. Not long after that I got another. Two years later I had 2 410XLTs. Lots of people have wanted to know where I got them since there isn't a dealer near here. Good stuff is worth a trip! On occasion I'll use and old SVT setup, or an SWR Super Redhead 210, but my constant mainstay has been the Eden cabs. I recently got even smarter and purchased a WT-1250. Why I waited so long to get an Eden amp I'll never know. I am very pleased! I have always had a good sound but it has a new "life", now. I'll have to find a special reason to pull out the Boogie 400+ or the SVT.

Here is a link to some of the stuff I am still proud to own and play. Just put up recently. My Eden gear, along with a few others, is missing from the page as it was loaded in the gear van when the pics were taken - this will be remedied shortly.http://www.tannerslane.com/scott/gear.html

No matter where you go, there you are.
