Everybody has their own idea of what the ideal bass tone/sound is, and that is as it should be. Stumbled across a quote I like so much that I added it to my profile.

Bass should be more about woofin'...less about tweetin'.

That describes my preferences perfectly. Gotta love it!

Hey Nick,

I hear what you're sayin' about the D212XLT, but it's just a little too heavy for my middle-aged back and shoulders. The D210XST however, is within my weight range (Goldilocks Syndrome) and the perfect cab for more woof/less tweet. If the fellow who was winning bidder on my recent eBay item (auction ended Oct 26) doesn't flake on me, I'll probably be ordering one in the next few weeks.

I don't know why this didn't come to me sooner, but I think I'll make the woofin' quote part of my forum signature. Now we're havin' some fun!

Unfortunately the ideal tone is different for every song, every gig. Sometimes a P-Bass through an old tube amp is perfect; other times my Warwick with new strings direct to the desk is just right; or a Rick through a Big Muff; or an upright with a bow... It's the reason we need so many different basses, as I keep telling my wife.

'tried that set-up a few times but it's not as fat as my Ag 412 cab............. I also found it more of a hassle to move two boxes.

I agree with Warwick. I too use different basses and cabinets to get different sounds depending on the situation or venue (I have only one amp at present). And different tonal settings on the bass for some songs. But whatever variation I'm trying to achieve, it always has to be a big, warm, full, enveloping sound. That's why they call it BASS. My new signature is not just an attempt to put smiles on your faces. I live for that kind of tone. Even when listening to albums or CD's, I'm attracted most to recordings with that big, full, warm kind of bass tone.

Speaking of which, my WT-400 with my Aguilar GS-212 has that exact sound. A bit on the heavy side though, at 70 lbs. I'm looking forward to putting a D210XST underneath my 38 lb. Epifani UL-210. That should sound awesome and be quite portable.

I tell my wife the same thing as Warwick. It seems to be working.

I'd say there are a lot of wives out there that are told the very same thing................

A different bass "FOR EVERY SONG" or more for "EVERY SITUATION",is, in my eyes very plausable!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is no cure for GAS!!!!!!!!!
