WT1205 - This One Goes to Twelve!

For more than a decade, the WT800 has been the standard for touring bassists around the world. Now, we've raised the bar with the WT1205. After many months of research and development, Eden's newest bad boy is ready for the market.

Eden WT1205 Amplifier.

The WT1205 is a two channel, integrated amplifier that puts out a whopping 1205 Watts RMS into 4 Ohms in Bridge Mode. Peak power is twice that - more than 2400 Watts! You can spell that L-O-U-D. In addition, it packs an amazing set of features to help you craft the perfect tone.

Each channel features its own Input Gain, Compressor, Enhance and tone control sections. This means you can use two basses on a gig and switch between them on the fly - there's no need to reset the preamp for each between songs. How's that for cool? You can also set up two completely different tones for a single bass and switch between them. This is great for players who want different tone settings for fingerstyle and pick playing, for example. And, if you have an instrument with two signals - for instance, an upright with two pickups - you can send the each signal to its own channel and blend the two for a wide array of tonal possibilities.

Channel One features a simplified 4-band tone control section with Bass, Low Mid (550Hz), High Mid (2.2KHz) and Treble. Use the low mid to enhance the voice of fretless basses a la Jaco. The High Mid control is great for adding a bit of extra grind for an in-your-face Rock tone. You can also cut a bit here (and perhaps on the Treble) to get a smooth R&B or Blues tone.

Channel Two has a 3-band tone control group. However, the Mid control is semi-parametric so you can set the center frequency as well as level. This is perfect for upright and acoustic/electric basses that may have an unwanted resonant frequency that needs to be massaged.

The overall design of the WT1205 is similar in some ways to the WT405. The Input Gain, Enhance and Master Volume controls have all been recalibrated to allow the user to do more fine tuning. In addition, the WT1205 features the Dynamic Boost circuit that was introduced on the Time Traveler heads.

Based on the Fletcher-Munson curve - which describes how the human ear hears different frequencies at different volume levels - the Dynamic Boost circuit helps the bass sound full even at very low volumes. (A word of warning: be careful using this circuit at higher volume levels as it can add as much as 15dB to the extreme low and high frequencies.) To make this feature even better, we've given you the choice of engaging the Dynamic Boost for Bass, Treble or both.

Other features include:

  • Pre- and Post-EQ effects loops on each channel.
  • One of the finest DIs in the business, complete with level control, ground lift, and Pre/Post EQ select switch.
  • Stereo Aux Inputs for connecting other gear, a drum machine, e.g.
  • Headphone/Slave output for silent practice and to drive slave amplifiers.
  • Tuner output - so you don't have to run your tuner in-line.
  • Mute switch to allow silent tuning.
  • Included footswitch to control channel selection, Enhance bypass, Turbo Boost and Mute to Tune functions.

Like it's brother, the WT800, the WT1205 is a perfect match for our new D610XLT cabinet. In Mono Bridge mode, the amp will put 1100 Watts RMS into the D610XLT, which is rate at 1050 Watts RMS. Other great cabinets choices are:

  • A pair of D210XSTs (8 Ohms) run in Mono Bridge mode.
  • A pair of D410XLTs, either in dual mono (4 Ohm cabinets) or Mono Bridge (8 Ohm cabinets).

Of course, there are many other cabinet options, but these are the ones we like best. Feel free to mix and match to create our perfect tone.

While the WT1205 is very new, we're already getting some great reports. Here are a few worth noting:

Neil D'Amato told our forum members that "the sound [is] full, warm, articulate, punchy and has an awesome growl and bite. . . . I think the tonal possibilities of the 1205 are almost limitless. For me, the best thing about the 1205 is that I don't need to spend time searching for 'MY SOUND' . . . I just plug in and get a great sound!"

Our Special Projects Coordinator, Lane Baldwin, who's been an Eden endorser for several years, was one of the first to get a WT1205. (Hey, there have to be a few perks for working for us!) He's currently using it with a D610XLT. Lane says he's "in love. After running a WT800 for more than a decade, I was curious to see if I could get the same killer tone out of the WT1205. And, boy, can I ever. In fact, I think the tone is even better. I can still get a great tone with minimal EQ adjustments. Even better, I can now use two basses on a gig when I need to."

Paul Buschbacher, one of our Inside Sales reps, and a killer Blues guitarist who was the leader for Lane's first live gig with the WT1205, reports that "unlike Mr. Lane, who was tethered to his rig by a cable, I walked out into the club during the show. . . . That rig has got some serious [power]. The club was experimenting with a new subwoofer on their PA. They didn't need it, and did not run Lane through the house (at my request). This thing has tremendous throw. You just don't realize how much air was being moved until you got out front. Great sound with an amazing complexity to the sound that even the venerable WT800 doesn't have. Great sound, and yes, he did have to turn down, and we were pretty well cranked (they even miked up the guitar and a little bit on the drums)."

The new WT1205 is now shipping to dealers. As there is very strong demand for our newest head, you'd be wise to get down to your dealer as soon as possible to place an order. You'll be glad you did.
